Here we are at the end of June and this year is just flying by! Its been as busy as ever here at Thatcham Youth.
Since my last blog we ran our annual Easter Family Fun Day in April, which was our busiest yet! We saw hundreds of people through the doors enjoying the free offering of arts & crafts, sports from Berkshire Youth’s SPLAT team and bouncy castles. It was a great day for it too with the sun shining! We received lots of great and positive feedback about the day, my thanks go out to the volunteers who came on the day to make it all possible.
We held our Managements Committee AGM in April, which saw some new committee members coming on board, Dave was re-elected as Chairman and Joel became our new Vice Chairman – You can see the full details of our committee here - https://www.thatchamyouth.org.uk/committee.
Our current activities have been going well, with our Vision Youth Club for 11-13 year olds seeing an average attendance of around 50 young people and our G-STAX Youth Club seeing an average of 15 young people, with numbers in the last few weeks increasing to around 20. Its great to be engaging with so many young people every week and we see the positive impact of this engagement as the young people grow in confidence and try new activities they haven’t done before. I also mentioned about a new project where we have linked up the Glendale Church to deliver Free Football Training, this has been going well and there is a consistent group of young people who attend this, hopefully we will see numbers grow over time, but we are excited by this project.
We also launched another new project this month, doing some Outreach Youth Work. We have been out on the streets of Thatcham engaging directly with young people, encouraging them into our youth activities and youth development programme, the project is still fairly new but is showing positive results already, with some good numbers of engagement with young people and the resulting increase in attendance to our G-STAX Youth Club – we’ll keep you updated with how this is going.
As we quickly approach the summer holidays, we are in the middle of organising our three FREE summer holiday activities, with a fun day, reptile handling & family comedy show planned – there will certainly be plenty for all the family to do. You can find out more about these activities here - https://www.thatchamyouth.org.uk/about/summer-holiday-events.
And with that, I am off to finalise some funding bids for the summer events and get our budgets sorted for next year! And for anyone who attends our Youth Clubs, don’t forget to follow them on Facebook – “Vision Youth Club for 7-11 Year Olds” & “G-STAX Youth Club for 11-14 year olds” – As we have just released the activity programmes for the next three months!
