So it’s been a little while since my last blog due to being busy with lots of Thatcham Youth things!
Firstly and the most exciting thing for us recently is that all of our projects are now funded for the 2019/20 financial year, we secured most of this in early January. For those of you who keep an eye on the Facebook page and the local newspaper, you will have seen the extremely exciting news that the Town Council has backed us for another three years AND increased our funding compared to previous years. The support of the Town Council since we first started back in April 2010 has been magnificent and we are glad to have another three-year funding deal with them.
With our funding now secured for the coming year, I have turned my attention to getting our offering for volunteer’s right. Volunteers really are the lifeblood of what we do and they contribute so much, be it our volunteers or staff who work extra in their own time. We have always got our volunteers in helping run our activities, offering them training and development opportunities but in an informal setting. What I am working on is a structured recruitment, development and reward programme for our volunteers to really make the most of them and allow them to best use their talents and develop others.
We also have a new exciting project launching on March 6th with the Glendale Church & their youth worker Joel. We are teaming up to offer free football training to young people aged 10-14 every week at 4pm at Moorside – details can be found under the activities tab on our website.
And as for our existing projects, both Vision & G-STAX Youth Club are doing great, we are engaging around 65-70 young people weekly at these in a variety of sports, arts & crafts, music and baking activities. And as I type this I am gearing up for tonight’s Thatcham Roller Disco which promises to be a busy one with both sessions pre-sale tickets sold out!!
And on that note, I am off to finalise our prep for tonight and a get a little break before the Roller Disco starts. Thanks for taking the time to read and if you want to find anything out about Thatcham Youth, or want to find out how to get involved and help please get in touch through the contact us page on the website!
