Here we are in November! This year really is flying by, so much so I a couple of months late writing my quarterly blog (better late than never though...Right!?).
Well going back to the summer, we had an amazing offer of free school holiday events and you all loved them! We ran an animal handling session, show by Fred in the Shed and a family fun day with bouncy castles, crafts and sports. All three days were well attended by over 1,000 of you in total and we had some amazing feedback from you all about the events. I really hope you did enjoy them and keep an eye out for our next free event in Easter next year.
As well as that we also ran outreach youth work in the town, with youth workers spending time on the streets on evening and weekends engaging directly with young people, encouraging them to attend our regular youth provision, and find out what they new projects they would like to see in the town. The work was a success with a lot of young people engaged with and we saw an increase in attendance to our older Monday night youth club as a result.
Speaking of youth clubs, once schools went back we saw an increase in young people at our youth clubs, and we are engaging with around 80-90 young people a week now between our two youth clubs. They continue to be popular and we recently just held a Halloween Disco for our younger Friday club, which was a great night with lots of dancing and enjoying some great party games! The Halloween costumes were amazing too.
Looking forward to December, we are getting ready for our first time having a stall at the Christmas Lights switch on in Thatcham. I will be there along with a couple of volunteers promoting our youth provision activities, seeing if anyone is interested in volunteering with us and we will have a great raffle on offer, with prizes including a cut & blow dry at Clarissa Hair & Beauty, an Amazon Echo Dot, a Photoshoot and much more!
Then as we look to early next year, we are planning a special event to celebrate our 10th Anniversary since we first opened as Vision Youth Club back in April 2010. We are going to be running a celebration evening which will include an awards evening open to the whole Thatcham Community including awards such as inspirational young person, inspirational volunteer of the year and lots more! So keep an eye on our Facebook page and website if you know anyone you would like to nominate!
Well, that’s it from me for now, ill be back on track with another blog in January 2020! So I hope everyone enjoys what is left of 2019 and don’t forget about our Vision Youth Club for 7-11 Year olds every Friday, G-STAX Youth Club for 11-14 Year Olds every Monday & Thatcham Roller Disco on the first Saturday on the month – more information on our website!
