During the summer holidays Thatcham has benefited from some free activities for young people & families thanks to Thatcham Youth who ran three free events. The first was a reptile handling session, everyone enjoyed getting to handle and learn about the snakes, tortoises, lizard and more! There was then the annual Summer Family Fun Day with a whole range of arts & crafts, sports, bouncy castles and bouncy castles and the final event was a comedy show from Fred in the Shed which went do a treat with lots of audience participation from children and adults alike!
"The days were an incredible success," said Dan Carter, Head of Youth Activities at Thatcham Youth. "We really cannot believe the numbers of people who attended the events, in total we saw just under 1000 people coming along across the three events. I think it really goes to show the value of having some free and accessible activities for young people and families in the town. We have run the Summer Family Fun Day's before, but wanted to expand on what we were offering to include some new events and these have been really we received. As a local charity we want to do our part for the town on top of our regular youth clubs and activities, a key part of that is our volunteers who made the days possible"
Thatcham Youth funded two of the events from their reserves and benefited from a grant from Newbury Building Society. Thatcham Youth relies on volunteers in order to run, and if you want to get involved simply contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
