Head of Youth Activities Blog – September 2021

It has been a wonderful summer for us here at Thatcham Youth, we have had a great number of young people attending ours & our partners free summer school holiday activities and our youth clubs have been seeing an increasing number of young people coming along each week. We have seen a total of 525 young people coming along to the four events that we can, with more attending the events put on by Berkshire Youth & RMD Adventure Learning, we have received amazing feedback from those who attended and a huge thanks to our funders Thatcham Rotary Club & The National Lottery Community Fund who funded the summer events.

Our youth clubs have also continued to do well over the summer, with our Vision Youth Club being fully booked & The Zone Youth Club seeing new members coming along each week and attendance growing which is great to see! Both of the clubs are always open to new members so please get in touch if you are interested in coming along.

Back in May & June we also ran a new project of Thatcham Youth Together, which is a support group for young people focussing around mental health & developing coping strategies to deal with challenges. The groups have been really well received & the young people who have attended have learnt skills that they are already utilising in their day to day lives. We are hopeful of being able to run the sessions again in future so we can support even more young people.

The coming months will be exciting for us as we look to launch a new project (more news on that soon!) and get our Roller Disco’s up and running again from October. We also have plans for at least one free event during the October Half Term and there are always new exciting opportunities for new projects. We are also going to be focussing on volunteer recruitment in the coming weeks as we look to boost the number of people supporting our activities as things return to normal and the number of young people engaging with our charity increases, so keep an eye out for those opportunities or get in touch if you want to help out.

I will finish off this by wishing all young people & teachers the best of luck returning to school as the new school year starts. The new year brings lots of new challenges, nerves, anxieties & things to look forward to, we at Thatcham Youth are always here for young people so please get in touch if you are concerned.
